UNION COFFEE, E Union St, Capitol Hill, Seattle

Standing out as a new coffee shop in Seattle requires doing something different. Union Coffee owner Zack Reinig envisioned a shop that would not only make the best cup of coffee in town, but would also appeal to the local design, music and entrepreneurial crowds. He wanted the space to tap into his love of contemporary Japanese and Nordic architecture and reflect his background in acoustics as a studio and traveling sound engineer with bands such as the Shins and Sleater-Kinney.

The design process resulted in this bright and crisp but still warm and inviting cafe with excellent acoustics in a unique, two-level space on Union Street in the Capitol Hill area. The shop opened in late 2016 and has since evolved into not only a local neighborhood staple but a destination for coffee geeks, flexible workers, musicians and design aficionados throughout the city.

Featured in Seattle Magazine as one of the “Best 8 Places to Work in Seattle” and voted SeattleCoffeeShops’ “Best Shop of 2017.”
