MEADOW HOUSE, Olympia

A young family that loves entertaining on a large scale desired a large, contemporary house on their vacant, 9-acre wooded site. In addition to their ambitions for the house which would require over 6,000 sf, they wanted the house to feel approachable to visitors of any background and fit within a limited budget.

Our design reduces the forms of the house into simple, traditional shapes that any builder and visitor will be able to quickly comprehend, while incorporating crisp, refined, contemporary detailing. The design also features interior elements that can be phased in over time as budget allows.

Guests enter through a very transparent, bright and open single-story center bar that contains the living, dining and kitchen, as well as a unique children’s kitchen and a catering project room. The two gabled forms house the family’s private, cozy rooms including a guest suite and large mother-in-law apartment. These wings can be closed down independently with the ebb and flow of generations over time.

The house is currently under construction.
